This Can’t End Well

Originally, I had approached Star St Germain to help create an in-studio album.  Over the span of a year while concurrently enrolled with school and working on other projects, I have recorded, edited and mixed five tracks for her upcoming EP to be released in February 2011.

The album was tracked primarily at Ex’pression College, Emeryville, California in their SSL-6000 studio.  Our initial session was experimental and helped lay the way for the rest.  The gear list was kept very simple and most of the tracking of instruments was done using the SSL’s preamps.

Vocals were recorded through a Blue Baby Bottle with a Tube-Tech MEC1A.  Cello was recorded with a KSM184 and TLM49.  Viola and Violin were mostly done through a combo of KSM184s and Royer R122.

During the process, a notebook was dedicated to keeping track of notes on general signal path and mic use, as well as take information.

Mixing is currently in process.  A majority of which is being done “in the box,” using basic commonly bundled Pro Tools plugins.

The album plans to be released online only with a possible limited vinyl pressing.
